Oak Crest Academy provides unique opportunities for high-ability students to attend Summer enrichment courses at Oak Crest Academy in Oak Park, California. This enrichment program enables students to explore specialized topics not typically studied in the regular classroom.
SEP is an academically challenging program with an emphasis on inquiry-based learning for students. The program is not meant to supplement the regular school year curriculum; rather, it recognizes the importance of allowing able youngsters to explore additional specialized areas of science, mathematics, humanities, and arts. Course activities are compatible with the expected achievement of talented students at specific grade and age levels. Behaviors fostered by the gifted learner program include the ability to:
Apply process skills used in individual fields of inquiry such as:
– Recognize problems and approaches to problem solving.
– Understand and appreciate individual differences.
Become a self-directed learner. At Oak Crest Academy, we consider summer to be a time for students to explore their interests while still being challenged at a level that is appropriate for them. In addition, we understand that while not all students may be a fit for the day school program, they may benefit and enjoy the experience of our summer sessions. Therefore, we will have a separate admissions process for non-students interested in attending summer sessions.
Summer sessions will take place for three weeks over the summer. During this time students will have the opportunity to take a range of courses, both academic and extracurricular. We will continue to use project-based inquiry to allow students to explore topics of interest through problem-solving and in a team-based scenario.
